A private English afternoon in the mountains

Ten minutes by car from Karuizawa

 

There are many places to enjoy good food.

There are many places to drink tea.

But there are not so many places where time itself seems to slow down.

 

At Flossie, we welcome just one private group each afternoon.

 

This is not afternoon tea in a café.

It is more like being invited into a small English home: quiet, personal and unhurried.

For those few hours, the house belongs entirely to you.

 

Your Afternoon at Flossie

Settle in and enjoy approximately two and a half unhurried hours.

Your seasonal afternoon may include:

• A seasonal welcome drink

• A small seasonal soup

• A warm savoury from the oven

• Freshly baked English scones

• Homemade preserve and cream

• Seasonal sweets

• As much of our house tea as you wish throughout your visit

The menu changes gently with the seasons.

It is a small progression inspired by the garden, the surrounding mountains and the slower rhythm of life at the house.

 

Before you arrive

Please leave your car in our private parking area.

From there, a small path leads between the rice fields to the house. The walk takes approximately two or three minutes.

We like to think of this path as the beginning of your afternoon.

​

At the entrance, leave your shoes—and, if you can, the hurry of everyday life—behind.

Slip into a pair of house slippers and come inside.

If anyone in your party has difficulty walking, please contact us before your visit so that we can help.
